Feb2014_Lake Samsonvale restocked
On December 22 2013 there were 44,000 Australian Bass Fingerlings released into Lake Samsonvale.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Division 7 Councillor David Dwyer said Council provided $7,000 for the purchase of fingerlings as part of its commitment to biodiversity in local waterways.
“Council’s contribution meant the Pine Rivers Fish Management Association was able to purchase an additional 25,000 fingerlings to re-stock our waterways with native fish,” Cr Dwyer said.
“The Australian Bass Fingerlings will help to tip the balance in favour of native species in Lake Samsonvale.
“Thanks to the Pine Rivers Fish Management Association and its hardworking volunteers for their ongoing commitment to protecting fish habitats in the Pine Rivers Catchment Area.”
Division 11 Councillor Bob Millar said that the release would help to ensure the lake, located in Division 11, continued to be a favourite fishing spot for the region’s anglers.
“Just as important, the restocking of native fish will benefit Lake Samsonvale’s ecosystem,” Cr Millar said.
“Council has contributed in the past to helping the Pine Rivers Fish Management Association carry out the restocking of native fish.”
Moreton Bay Regional Council provides support for a number of community and not-for-profit organisations in the region.
