Feb2014_Dayboro Footpaths and Outdoor Fitness/Gym Facility
On 27th November 2013, representatives of Dayboro Lions met with Cr Bob Millar and other MBRC representatives to discuss improvements to the Dayboro footpath network. Our objective in having this discussion was to highlight areas around the town where approval had been given for new developments to proceed but with no apparent consideration made for new residents to access the Town safely on appropriate footpaths. The three main roads leading to Dayboro are extremely busy and pedestrians should not have to compete with trucks, cars, motor bikes and push bikes.
We discussed with Bob, developing the footpath network in Dayboro to ensure residents and their children could access the Town safely on footpaths. The areas discussed as “requiring development” were identified on a priority basis :-
1. Dayboro Road between Terrors Creek Bridge and Hay Road. The long standing request from Alcheringa residents for a pedestrian refuge in this area was also discussed. This area is already particularly hazardous and a new development, proposed for land to the southern end of Fingerboard Road, is likely to be approved.
2. Mt. Mee Road from the Parklands Estate easement to the Showgrounds road.
3. Mt. Samson Road from Brecklyn Close to Juffs Road. We also discussed the need for the existing verge in this area to be subject to regular mowing until the footpath is constructed.
4. Laceys Creek Road from Edmonds Court in three sections first to Nugent Road, then to Diane Drive and finally to Sellin Road.
5. The last section discussed was to connect the existing footpath from Diane Drive to Edmunds Court with the Footy Club.
These developments would complement the MBRC Active Living Plan by providing improved walking facilities for residential areas connecting safely with Dayboro along our very busy road network.
We also discussed the possible provision of an outdoor fitness/gym facility for Dayboro to be located somewhere in Tullamore Park, preferably towards the Showground end. Outdoor Fitness Stations are a regular feature in other areas of MBRC with more than 15 already operational, including Samford (photo above).
Cr Bob Millar confirmed that this kind of facility was being considered for Dayboro already, but due to budget constraints and other priorities, it may not proceed for some years.
Dayboro Lions would like to get feedback from the community on these two initiatives to provide improved infrastructure facilities for Dayboro, please provide your comments to :- dayboro.lions@gmail.com
