Ocean View Estates, right here on our doorsteps, won Gold at the recent Queensland Tourism Awards for the third consecutive year, earning the winery the honour of a place in Queensland’s Tourism Hall of Fame.
The win, in the Category of Tourism Wineries, Breweries and Distilleries, put Ocean View Estates up against some big names, including Bundaberg Rum Distillery and Castlemaine Perkins Brewery on the Gold Coast.
Estate Co-owners Kate and Thomas Honnef said they were truly honoured by this year’s win, and determined to continue to ‘up the ante’ with ongoing improvement and innovation.
“We put our success down to hard work, forward planning, and a great team of staff and locals who support us and have become part of the Ocean View Estates family,” Kate said.
And then there is the Estate’s incredible range of experiences and perfect location.
At just 45km from Brisbane City, Ocean View Estates is the closest fully-operational winery to a major CBD anywhere in Australia, and offers a range of experiences all on the one beautiful property including food and wine events, music and art events, picnics, horse riding tours, helicopter tours and accommodation.
Winemaker Thomas Honnef takes guests closer to the winemaking action with a special Walk a While with the Winemaker tour that is unique in Australia, and there are free winery tours every day that the Estate is open.
Kate and Thomas also offer tours incorporating other local wineries and specialty indulgence bookings such as Just Girls Day Out lunches which include massage or photography experiences.
“We hope that this latest win will encourage more locals to take the opportunity to explore the great tourism products they have at their back door,” Kate said.
By being inducted into the Hall of Fame, the Estate joins a prestigious group of tourism operators that includes Australia Zoo and Dreamworld.
Ocean View Estates will now be automatically entered into the Australian Tourism Awards, with results due to be announced in February 2014.
