Artist of the Month – February 2013
Majella Holton   BA (Psych)
Until recent years, Majella Holton’s artistic talents were mainly concentrated on her love of the grace, movement and glitz of Ballroom Dancing.  Where as Majella initially started painting landscapes in oils, she is now experimenting and enjoying all mediums.  Majella’s favourtite subject matter is portraiture – ‘the eyes are windows to the soul’.
Majella has had the opportunity of attending many workshops with talented Australian artists, including Greg Allen, Colley Whisson, John Wilson and Lyn Diefenbach.  Turning points in her career include winning many art awards at local shows and exhibitions, exhibiting in a Greek exhibition at the Bribie Island Art Centre, exhibiting at the Dayboro Art Gallery with 40 local artists and commencing a Cert IV in Visual Arts at TAFE in 2013.
Art runs in the family, with her mother, Mareece, winning many prizes at Rural Shows in Victoria, with her Porcelain paintings.  Her cousin, Sandra, has an Art Studio in the Grampians, Victoria

Other Gallery news:
The Dayboro Community Gallery had a very busy Christmas with visitor numbers up on last year. New members have brought new work to the gallery including John and Myra Good who have returned to the gallery after a period in Victoria.  They now reside in Narangba.  Myra specialises in seascapes and abstract landscapes to flowers and figures while John is more into landscapes and seascapes presented in an impressionist style.  Both have work in private collections in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
The top room now has a new ceiling with lighting expected to be completed in the near future.
The gallery is open 7 days a week from 10 am to 3 pm. So why not drop in to see the new work and extensive range of local artwork and jewellery.
