DICKSON NEWS Nov09
From your Federal Member for Dickson
PETER DUTTON
Thank you to everyone who contacted me with their support in the last weeks. As previously announced in my column, due to the Electoral Commission redistribution of Dickson, making it a notionally Labor seat, I made the extremely difficult decision to nominate for the seat of McPherson where the sitting member, Margaret May will be retiring at the next election.
While it may not be a common event for a sitting member to change Federal seats it is not unprecedented, with former Labor front bencher Kim Beazley moving from his increasingly marginal seat of Swan for the safer seat of Brand.
Following the preselection process on 3 October I was unsuccessful in my bid to be selected to run for McPherson at the next election.
I started my public service as a policeman almost 20 years ago and have worked hard for our local area over the last 8 years. It is my intention to serve the community in some form or other into the future. I believe I have something to offer the Liberal Party into the future and I want to continue focussing on being a good and effective local member until the next Federal election. That is what I was elected to do.
Please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit me when you see my caravan at my mobile office to discuss any concerns and issues you may have.
Protect your kids online
A fact sheet, “Helping your kids protect their identity online”, has been prepared for parents by the Australian Bankers’ Association, its member banks and the Australian Federal Police.
The fact sheet outlines some of the threats online and provides some practical tips on how to talk to children about these issues. To protect you child’s and family’s identity as well as safety it is important to have a discussion with children about what is appropriate to publish online or send via mobile phone. The fact sheet can be found at www.bankers.asn.au or www.afp.gov.au .
