Dec2013_Allan Smillie RIP

A celebration of the life and adventures of Allan Smillie was held at Deception Bay on Saturday 9th November.
He was much loved and many attendees told amusing stories about their times and travels with Allan and Lillian.
Allan and Lillian Smillie moved to Kobble Creek in 1981.  There was a fire behind their home and up to Boongala Court which came close to the Darvells.  All the neighbours were out in force to contain the fire and save the house.
From that point there was a push to revitalise the Samsonvale Rural Fire Brigade, to recruit new members and organise formal training for them.
The Smillies were part of the team helping to fundraise.  They lived at Kobble Creek for 20 years with the view to retiring at Hervey Bay, however bought a motorhome instead and spent 10 memorable years travelling Australia and making new friends.
While in W.A. Allan was diagnosed with mesothelioma and told he had four to eight weeks to live so they decided to head back to Queensland, visiting friends and family on the way and sell their motorhome.
Two years later, on Sunday 3rd November 2013 Allan passed away peacefully in his sleep at North West Private Hospital with his wife Lillian and friends by his side.
Allan Smillie was a man who could always see the positive or funny side of any situation.  It seemed to be his mission in life to collect as many friends as possible and to leave a smile on people’s hearts.
He will be remembered fondly and dearly missed.
