Dec2010 UNITYWATER WATER METER READING NOTICES

Unitywater’s water meter reading program for the January 2011 account is 75% complete with more than 88,000 Moreton Bay Regional Council area properties receiving a Water Meter Reading Notice.
The initiative is an important part of Unitywater’s water meter reading program, which began in October and will continue around the area until December.
As water usage is only ever charged in arrears on a quarterly basis, these notices relate to the next Unitywater account, to be distributed in January 2011.  Your current account, received in early November, relates to water used between July and September.
‘As such, there is a rolling program for water meter readings.’
Water meter readers are hitting local streets until mid-December and can be identified by their shirts, which read ‘Water meter reader’.
The readings are part of Unitywater’s quarterly meter reading program, which sees every accessible water meter read on properties in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.
Customers will receive a Water Meter Reading Notice that lets them know when their meter has been read.  Importantly, it also records if a reading couldn’t be taken, and the reason(s) for it, which need to be followed up.
‘Customers can use the Water Meter Reading Notice to take their own readings the same day, to check against the account for that usage.  This can also help identify leaks,’ Ms Bailey said.
Ms Bailey added that water meters are the responsibility of property owners, something Unitywater customers may not have been aware of previously.
‘Property owners must ensure that the property’s meter is working, and accessible for the purposes of a reading, such as remaining clear of vegetation, dirt or other obstructions.’
The Water Meter Reading Notice also provides greater clarity for customers whose meter has been read, but may appear not to have been.  The law requires accessible water meters to be left as they are found after being read, including with any obstructions, such as dirt, replaced.
