Dear Editor, BLUE NURSES Oct08

I am writing to you in the hope that my letter will provide the community with increased awareness about the value of the Blue Nursing Service.

Once a Blue Nurse myself, I never dreamed I would one day be on the receiving end of their services, but life serves us some unexpected challenges. I receive excellent support (husband Gary), and superior medical and personal care from Dr David Sawdon. However after referral to the Blue Nurses we realised the added value of their expert nursing skills, common sense suggestions, and their advice and assistance about accessing free medical supplies. They also organised a cleaning and ironing service much to my husband’s relief. Though offered respite care in our home, we declined at this point in time. As with Dr Sawdon, these nurses give me a sense of security that I can stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible. For all those people in the community who need any kind of support, you should not feel you have to struggle on your own, or ‘keep a stiff upper lip’. Similarly for all those carers feeling stressed and exhausted contact the Blue Nurses – you will not regret it.
