DAYBORO STATE SCHOOL Oct 2008

Happenings at Dayboro State School

What a busy year we have had up at the school.  The children have been involved in all sorts of fun educational activities such as dance lessons.  They have also participated in many and varied excursions and have watched a mix of very talented visitors.

Their latest venture was a “School Concert” where each class presented an item of entertainment to the hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of audience members who came along.  The school choir and the school band were also featured on the night.  The concert was held at the Showgrounds and started with a barbecue dinner.  It was a fantastic night and we would like to thank our wonderful band of local businesses for their support.  To Eagle Boys for Sponsoring this evening and for also giving 10 raffle prizes, to the Dayboro Bakery for donating the bread rolls, to Nicole from “the green grape” for cutting up all the salads for us, to Scott at the Dayboro Butchery for giving us a great deal on the meat and to the IGA for their continued support.  Without the support from our local businesses we could not put on a night like this, so remember, when next you shop “THINK LOCALLY”!!!

The funds raised from the school concert have enabled us to purchase four new Alphasmarts for our Special Education Unit.  These machines are essential tools for children who have problems with literacy.  When we told Mark Howie, from Eagle Boys, exactly what we were raising the money for, he was so impressed he pledged to donate yet another one of these machines to the school.  Yet again – a local business.  We would also like to thank Toni Hall and her family for donating a machine that they no longer use.  We have a wonderful Special Education Unit and with the help and support of the local community it just keeps getting better.  Thank you all.

Outside School Hours Care

Dayboro State School runs an Outside School Hours Care Program for children from Prep to Year 7.  If you would like to come along and have a look at the Centre please ring Debra Neil on 3425 2200 and she can arrange a time to meet with you and answer any questions you might have.

Prep Enrolments

We had a fantastic turnout for our Prep Information morning which was held in the Prep Room on 4th September.  Our Principal, Glynnis Gartside, Deputy Neil McMahon and Prep Teacher Jan Field put together a wonderful presentation and all who attended were very impressed with what they saw.  If you were unable to attend this morning but are interested in finding out more about the school please ring us on 3425 6111 for further details.

Melbourne Cup Day

Once again we will be running our Melbourne Cup Function at the Dayboro Community Hall.  Come along for a day of fun, food and fashion.  Tickets are $30.00 per person or $27.50 for a group of 10 or more.  Tickets are available at “The Green Grape”.  See our advertisement in this edition of  “The Grapevine”.
