Dayboro Rural Watch needs your help

On Thursday 12th February 2009 a special meeting of the Dayboro Rural Watch is to be held at the Dayboro Bowls Club, commencing at 7.30pm.
The purpose of the meeting is to establish whether there is sufficient community interest to continue with the Rural Watch in the Dayboro Police Division.
Rural Watch is the rural equivalent of the Neighbourhood Watch Program and has operated in the Dayboro area since the early 1990’s.  As with many community based organisations, there has been dwindling support and the last two attempts to hold an AGM have been unsuccessful due to insufficient numbers in attendance.  A dedicated core group of people has managed to keep the program running but more community involvement is needed.
Our rural watch area covers the same area as Dayboro Police Division – the Dayboro town area, Mount Pleasant, Laceys Creek, King Scrub, Rush Creek, Oceanview, Samsonvale, Armstrong Creek, Kobble Creek, Mount Samson, Clear Mountain, Cedar Creek and Cashmere (Winn Road to Hacker Road).
The main objectives of the program are to:
Reduce crime
Reduce the number of preventable offences
Improve personal, household and farm security
Provide support for victims of crime
Implement an effective system for reporting and recording criminal activity and suspicious behaviour
Implement and maintain property marking and identification schemes to discourage theft and assist in return of recovered property
Create new and improve existing relationships between Police and local rural communities.
All members of the local community are automatically members of the Dayboro Rural Watch area.
The committee does need some extra assistance, but showing your support can be as simple as attending meetings where possible.  Five meetings are held each year and venues are currently rotated between Dayboro, Samsonvale Hall and Clear Mountain.
