Dayboro Community Kindergarten
Olympathon
During September both Kindergarten groups held an Olympathon. Watching 4 and 5 year olds do high jump, sack races and obstacle courses is quite possibly the cutest thing you ever will see! The Australian flag was raised as the national anthem was sung giving a true sense of patriotism. The parents even joined in the sack race to everyone’s amusement. It is not about winning but participating, and each child received a certificate of participation and gold medal for their efforts. (The winning sack race parents also got a gold medal!!)
Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who came to support their little ones and the Kindergarten. A sausage sizzle and event sponsorship program was another fantastic fundraiser for the Kindy raising over $1100. Thank you to the fundraising committee for all their hard work.
GOMA Visit
As part of the Kindergarten Art Program the children were very excited to go on an excursion to the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA).
Throughout the year the children have been building a large art vocabulary, have been exposed to a number of Artwork and are able to identify different media and processes. It was an amazing experience for them to wander through the gallery, see Artwork on such a large scale and apply the linguistic skills they have been using. This was a really exciting culmination of everything they have learnt this year, in particular visual literacy, the development of language and respect for culture.
Thank you to the Kindy’s Art Teacher Sally Morrison for opening the children’s eyes and minds to art! *
