Creative Generation Excellence Awards showcase youth art

Four young high school artists will represent Moreton Bay Region in the upcoming Creative Generation Excellence Awards exhibition at Pine Rivers Regional Art Gallery at Strathpine.
The exhibition, from October 15 to November 15, is being run simultaneously with the 2008 Youth Art Awards on display at the adjacent Strathpine Community Centre.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said council congratulated the talented local students for their innovative artworks on paper, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and mixed media.
“Two of the young art students, Shaun Buzza and Adalia Pavitt, attended Pine Rivers High, while Alison Whitchurch attended Caboolture High and Alex Robson attended Morayfield High,” Cr Sutherland said.
“Their artworks are among 50 works selected from 500 entries, which were submitted by 2007 senior visual art students across Queensland, including regional and remote communities.”
He said these awards, held annually since 1990, were not a competition, but helped raise community awareness about the high standard of arts programs in Queensland secondary schools.
The exhibition will travel to regional venues across Queensland in 2008-2009 and is part of a Department of Education, Training and the Arts program.
Both Pine Rivers Regional Art Gallery, at 199 Gympie Road, Strathpine and the Community Centre are accessible from Mecklem Street car park, off Gympie Rd.
