A former Deputy Mayor of the Pine Rivers Shire Council will contest the mayoralty for the new Moreton Bay Regional Council. Bryan Galvin served 13 years with Pine Rivers – the last seven as Deputy Mayor to Yvonne Chapman.
John McNaught is currently the Division 2 Shire Councillor with Caboolture Shire Council. He has held this full-time position as an elected representative for 10 years. In 2000, he unsuccessfully contested the Mayoral position for Caboolture Shire Council and in hindsight, this was meant to be.
Redcliffe Mayor and candidate for the top job in the new Moreton Bay Regional Council, Cr Allan Sutherland, says he would bring a blend of energy and experience to the position. The 51-year-old fitness devotee is chair of the Local Transition Committee, which is charged with overseeing a range of issues associated with merging the Redcliffe, Pine Rivers and Caboolture Shire Councils.
WHEN IT COMES TO COUNCIL BUSINESS The Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Transition Committee is urging residents, businesses and community groups to ‘think district’ when it comes to conducting Council business post-amalgamation. LTC chair, Cr Allan Sutherland, said people in Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe should continue to deal with staff at their existing local Council office from March 17 to access the services they have come to value and expect.
As we move into the year (and isn’t it going fast) March is a very busy month. International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March and this year’s theme is Queensland Women: Shaping the Future. March 15th is also World Consumer Rights Day which promotes the right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to choose and the right to be heard. Don’t forget if you would like to meet with me but are unable to come to Strathpine, I am happy to meet you in Dayboro, just phone my office on 3205 6779 and either Gai or Sean will help you.

Long term Redcliffe Councillor, Dr. Peter Houston has entered the Mayoral Race for the new Regional Council of Moreton Bay.
Cr. Houston, with a total of 17 years on Redcliffe Council, feels that the initiative he had shown on Redcliffe City Council in beautifying and promoting the area has brought Redcliffe forward considerably over the last 16 years and the same initiative is needed to set up the new Council to be a constructive and productive unit, with good outcomes for all existing staff.
