Lake Kurwongbah fish supply grows

The 110,000 Australian Bass fingerlings released in Lake Kurwongbah earlier this year as part of a recreational fishing development program are already halfway towards reaching their full legal length for fishing.
Divisional Councillor David Dwyer (Div 7) said the fingerlings, were introduced to the lake for both recreational fishing and to control the Tilapia, a noxious pest fish in Australia, which dominate the lake’s fish stock at present.

SNAKES ON THE MOVE

It’s that time of the year when reptiles are emerging from their winter hibernation and are easily coming into contact with people and pets and often acting aggressively. Residents should be especially careful when working in gardens and walking along our many recreational trails.  It is advisable to carry a compression bandage in the event of snake bite. Pioneering the Pine V

What do a jazz band’s drum kit, a fishing boat and locally made clay pottery have in common?
They are all historical artefacts in the Pioneering the Pine V exhibition, which help to recall the history of four pioneering families, at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum, in Dayboro Rd, Kurwongbah, from November 1, 2008 to February 1, 2009.

Moreton Bay Regional Council will investigate further its options in relation to botanical gardens and horticultural values for the region.
This follows a request to council from the Queensland division of the Society for Growing Australian Plants for a regional botanic garden to be established in the area.

New measures to combat litter

Council is hoping new State Government litter laws will help reduce the amount of debris and rubbish ending up in our region’s parks, waterways, highways and roadsides.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the vast majority of Moreton Bay residents did the right thing with their rubbish and were committed to preserving the “clean and green” image that draws people to the region.
