Feb2014_Dayboro’s Kerbside Recycling Collections Under Threat

Dayboro kerbside recycling collections are under threat if a decision is agreed to introduce a Container Deposit Levy (CDL) in Dayboro. The proposal is currently being considered by Federal and State environment ministers.
 
The CDL would see Dayboro residents paying an additional 10c on every water bottle, drink can, and milk, wine and other drink bottle purchased. This is termed as a ‘deposit’, which can be redeemed if a consumer takes the clean container to new public collection points.

VIEW stands for Voice, Interests and Education of Women.
In December, Pine Rivers VIEW members volunteered for a day Christmas wrapping at Stafford City Shopping Centre for a gold coin donation.  Money raised assisted The Smith Family and “Learning for Life”program.

We held our very successful first meeting for the year on Friday 17th January and had over 100 members attend whilst signing on several new members.  Plenty of information on all the new courses on offer was provided. 
Our next meeting on Friday 21st February at Bray Hall, Petrie will be “THE EYES HAVE IT- AN EXPO ON VISION IMPAIRMENT”.

Feb2014_PRNC’s New Scheme Gives Electricity Relief

With electricity costs in Queensland set to rise by 13.5% this year, the Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre has introduced a new scheme to help low income earners save on energy usage. 
The Home Energy Saver Scheme (HESS) will operate in partnership with the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) and is offering considerable government subsidies off energy efficient whitegoods. Low Income earners that are eligible for a NILS loan will be able to get large savings off energy efficient products and pay them back through Centrelink payments without any interest or fees.

Feb2014_Men responding in large numbers to beyondblue TV campaign

Thousands of Aussie men have visited beyondblue’s Man Therapy website after seeing Dr Brian Ironwood during the ad breaks while they’ve been watching the cricket on TV. 
Dr Brian Ironwood is not a registered practitioner, but he takes seriously his role as the face of the Man Therapy campaign which aims to improve men’s wellbeing and reduce the much higher rates of male suicide in Australia compared to women.
