CANCER FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS

A fantastic time was had by all at the Terrors Turtles Relay for Life Team’s Cancer Research fundraising evening at the Dayboro Show Grounds on February 16.  The Kelly Gang kept the crowd entertainment, as did the Flamenco Dancers.  Dayboro’s own Apex boys worked hard keeping the drinks flowing and Phil Black did a wonderful job as auctioneer.
Fourteen items were auctioned, netting a total of $11500.  Included in this total was a guitar signed by the 2008 Tamworth Country Music Festival winners – $4200;  a signed Australian Test Rugby League jersey – $1300;  an Aussie team signed cricket bat – $1300;  and Suzie O’Neill’s signed swim cap – $900.
In excess of $20,000 was raised – this was from ticket sales profit, auction and bar as well as the raffles.  The HOLIDAY was won by Chris Proctor and details of the HELICOPTER RIDE winner were not available in time for publication.
This successful evening is in addition to the monthly Dayboro Markets that this dedicated team have established as an ongoing Relay for Life fundraiser.  The markets are held on the 1st Sunday of each month – 8am to 12noon – on the Brisbane Bus Lines land (opposite the IGA), on the corner of Heathwood and Williams Streets, Dayboro.
The actual Relay For Life is an 18-hour event that is the culmination of the efforts of all the teams.  It will be held at the Lawnton Show Ground over the weekend of the26th and 27th  April.  There is entertainment, awards and tons of fun and hi-jinks during this time, which serves as a reward for the efforts that these volunteers have put into their fundraising.
