In reply to “Not Sergeant X”: I was most interested in your statistical perspective – thank you—it makes sense. I do attempt to abide by the traffic rules, and try to stick to the speed limit (it is better for the hip pocket).
I would however, like to share the following scenarios which occurred to me recently on ONE SINGLE DAY, when I needed to go to a number of places, and do a number of things.
1 I was going down the Samford range, trying to stay to the 70 K per hour limit, when I was passed by 2 vehicles, going at least 90++.
2 I was approaching a traffic light (which had already turned red, and I duly stopped.) The fellow behind me obviously thought the light was taking too long to change, so he used his horn and verbal abuse to communicate –(it appeared that he wanted me to go through the red light), according to his hand gestures – The problem was that, even if I wanted to proceed and go through the red light, there was traffic preventing this from occurring!
3 I was planning to turn off the road into a shopping centre. I was in the correct lane, and indicating appropriately, following a line of traffic that was in front of me, when the Learner driver following me, got agitated – leant out of her window with her whole upper body, gave me the finger, and then proceeded to use the most foul language that even a wharfie would be ashamed of. What was her mentor doing while this was happening? Laughing. I hope she attempts that during her driving test!!!
4 I stopped at a pedestrian crossing to let an elderly lady cross very slowly, and had to cope with a horn and words from behind me, as a result.
5 I was passed by a vehicle on Winn Rd / Samsonvale Rd, on a corner, with double lines. I was attempting to stick to the 80K per hour limit).
6 I was not aware that drivers exiting from a Makkas drive through, onto a road, had right of way.
We have had some dreadful accidents on our roads—please slow down, and take a chill pill!!!
