AUG2013_SAMFORD MUSEUM NEWS

Samford Show.
Once again we enjoyed a wonderful time in operating our stall at the annual Show, selling lots of cooking, preserves, dvd’s  and books on Samford history as well as a 15 prize raffle.  Our volunteers really relished meeting the crowd of people on both days. It was truly a great local Show and an experience in which we not only love participating but also raise funds so necessary to pay for running our Museum.
Recently Completed Projects
The team of volunteers known here as the “A” team have just added two more restorations to their impressive list of achievements.  Led by master painter Alan Morris, the old and massive log snigging machine which originally worked at Nicklin’s sawmill was completed and is on display adjacent to the street entrance of the Museum.  It really stands out in its Caterpillar like colour and is such an important piece of equipment in Samford’s timber industry.
Equally impressive is the old hay baler which came to the museum from the display at the Samford Hotel a few years ago.  Once again thanks to a wonderful “A”team effort in creating a colour scheme of intricate and very attractive design we have a machine which not only demands a second look but it is in fact a real working unit. Driven by an attached stationery engine this exhibit is truly a spectacle when all of its moving parts are operating. Just another wonder of invention many years ago and well worth a visit to check out.
