AUG2013_On Sept 8th MUSIC ON THE MOUNTAIN
– THE SAVOYARD SINGERS
The Singers return to the Mountain on Sunday 8th September for their 2013 offering “Singers and Songs”, yet another of their timeless concerts.
The team comprises Mary Ewing, Elaine Henderson; Ross Muirhead, John Hills and Mark Craig – all experienced vocal performers from the ranks of the Savoyards Musical Comedy Society.
Founder, leader and artistic director Phyll Griffin brings enormous talent to the group. Beginning with Lyric Opera Queensland, her professional career has been wide and varied. Her starring roles in Savoyards stage productions have included “Yum Yum” in “Mikado”, “Buttercup” in Pinafore and Lisa in Lehar’s “Land of Smiles”. Curiously too, Phyll has a strong family connection with the early settlement of the Pine River district and with a selection that became the range of a rascally family equine named “Terah”.
Sadly, as a performer, Phyll is now almost lost to administration. She is the busy secretary of the Society and she has just completed her duties on the casting panel for their upcoming production of “Pirates”. But, we will insist that she does a song or two for us this time!
The Singers have described “Singers and Songs” in the following words:-
“So in Love! I Dreamed a Dream! It’s Delovely!
The Savoyard Singers return to the picturesque surroundings of Mt Mee with the rhythmical beat of timeless melodies from Jerome Kern, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lerner and Loewe, Richard Rodgers and Cole Porter to name but a few.
The Savoyard Singers perform with simplicity and style, weaving the threads of their ‘musical tapestry’- a montage of theatrical songs about romance, falling in love and facing life’s challenges. Songs that have wit, tenderness and in some cases lasting happiness.
In the second half of the programme the Singers wander through various countries. They wander their canals, alleyways and romantic islands, singing catchy and popular tunes about tradition, of lasting memories of people and about their impossible dreams; “La Vie en Rose”, “Bali Ha’I”, songs from “Les Miserables”, “Big River” and many more unforgettable tunes.
Come and form part of the threads of our musical tapestry and enjoy some of the most wonderful songs ever written, songs by Sigmund Romburg, Irving Berlin, John Kander and Stephen Sondheim, songs from shows including “New Moon”, “Kiss me Kate”, “Do I Hear a Waltz”, “South Pacific” and more.
We really look forward to seeing you, (and to joining you for the yummy cakes and cuppa), at our splendid scenic venue in Mt Mee!”
