“BROADWAY SHOWCASE” on September 9
Yes, the ever popular Savoyard Singers will be back in the Mt Mee Hall on Sunday 9th September with their concert “Broadway Showcase”, commencing at 2pm sharp.
The Singers have described this year’s concert thus: –
“We will present a tribute to the wonderful music from Broadway shows.  Ira and George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote songs that have been loved by audiences for decades – and you too can share in that enjoyment.
You can share the spotlight as you hear duets from “Phantom of the Opera”, “High Society” and “The Boyfriend”. The authentic richness of solo tunes from many other shows will also make your heart sing.
As we weave our magic you will hear favourites from “Do I Hear a Waltz” mixed with nostalgic memories from Ivor Novello. Of course modern musicals will also be under the spotlight, with the stirring “Do You Hear the People Sing” from “Les Miserables”.
It’s then on to the dazzling topsy-turvey gaieties with “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” and other comedy surprises from the musicals.
Also on the surprise list we have, for the first time, a special guest artist. Matthew Mikkelsen, a brilliant award-winning solo guitarist will entertain with a special selection from his own “book’.
So we look forward to seeing you all once again. We can’t wait to join you for that famous afternoon tea with all those delicious favourite cakes. See you all on Sunday 9th September”.
How could I add to that?  Perhaps that there will also be tunes from “My Fair Lady”, “Show Boat”, “Annie Get Your Gun”, “Salad Days”, South Pacific” and many others.
The Singers are led by Phyll Griffin, who began her professional career with Lyric Opera of Queensland.  Her many roles in productions of the Savoyard Musical Comedy Society have included Yum Yum in “Mikado”, “Buttercup in “Pinafore” and Lisa in Franz Lehar’s “Land of Smiles”.  As founder and artistic director of the “Singers” she brings tremendous talent and experience to the team, who have all performed in Society stage productions.
Guest artist Matt Mikkelsen won the national Ibanez – Rebel Yell guitar competition in the nineties at the tender age of 18 years – having been runner up the year before.  He has since graduated from “The Con” and now teaches guitar and has worked with several well- known Brisbane bands, including “Double Experience” and the “Pharaohs”.  It will be a treat to hear him!
Admission is just $20.00 or $15.00 for pension card holders – and this does include the afternoon tea.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of this event by the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Booking is essential for catering purposes – please phone Kay on 5498 2104 or Joyce on 5498 2270.
