Moreton Bay Regional Council is proposing to name a 6.6 hectare Dayboro reserve on the banks of the North Pine River after local soldier and dairy farmer, Frederick Nethersole.
Division 11 Councillor, Bob Millar said it was an appropriate way of respecting and recognising the valuable contribution of one of the Dayboro areas early farming families.
“At the end of World War One, after serving with the Third Pioneer Battalion in France, Frederick Nethersole became one of Dayboro’s early dairy and small crop farmers, just a few years after the township’s name was changed from Terrors Creek.
“Mr Nethersole was an active member of the community and served as the vice-president of the Dayboro branch of the Returned Sailor’s, Soldier’s and Airmen’s Imperial League of Australia until his death in 1943.”
Cr Millar said he understood parts of the farm purchased by Frederick Nethersole in 1923 remained in the family’s ownership.
Public feedback on the proposed naming of Frederick Nethersole Reserve at Dayboro is open until the end of August.
