Mr Seath Holswich, Member for Pine Rivers, said that the Newman Government will spend $1 million over the next three years to send 50 students to Anzac Cove in Gallipoli and the Western Front.
“The Anzac tradition is central to the Australian story, and it’s important that our students get the opportunity to learn more about the Anzac spirit.”
Mr Trevor Ruthenberg, Member for Kallangur, wants to see all local high schools get involved in this challenge.
“For the students who win the prize, it will be the experience of a lifetime. For those who don’t win, it will still be an invaluable and enriching learning experience about our nation’s wartime history”
Students are being encouraged to prepare a short multimedia presentation addressing three key themes. The themes are:
How has the Anzac tradition shaped our nation?
Why is the Anzac tradition still important?
How will future generations keep the Anzac tradition alive?
“I have written to each of the high schools in my electorate, and I hope many students take up this challenge,” Mr Holswich added.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 21st September 2012. More information can be found at www.education.qld.gov.au/students/grants/scholarships
