”The Amazing Spider-Man”
Gemma Schuhmann
4 out of 5 stars

Basically everyone knows the story of Spiderman, even if you have never watched the films or read the comics.  So for the small number of people who don’t know the story here is a quick overview.  Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is a typical teenager who, of course, is struggling to fit in.  He gets bitten by a spider that gives him superhuman abilities, which allows him to save New York City from the bad guys (Rhys Ifans) and gets the girl (Emma Stone).  Whilst all this is happening he is trying to find the truth about his parents who left him in the care of this aunt and uncle.
The filmmakers tried to make this film different to the original Spiderman. First they did this by changing almost every character from the first films which means that there is no Mary Jane. Gwen Stacey becomes his love interest instead. The filmmakers also decided to make the storyline about Peter’s parent’s untold story. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen very well. The film did explain about his parents but not to the extent that was advertised. It felt like they left everything for a sequel.  Even the ending was left wide open, which most people missed because it was five minutes into the credits.
This film is full of comedy.  It made it feel down to earth and enjoyable; it wasn’t all about big action packed scenes.  The best part of the film was watching Peter turn into Spiderman; from the spider bite until he finally realizes he can climb up walls.  They are very funny scenes that would not have been as good if it wasn’t for Andrew Garfield. This British actor started in Doctor Who and starred in many other UK roles before he landed the role in the Social Network. This ultimately made his name in America and landed him the role of Spiderman.
All the actors are fantastic, they worked together so well. Everyone suited their character perfectly.  This created a natural vibe for the film. The music helped a lot with this vibe.  Although half way through a romantic scene it started to sound a little bit too much like Titanic.  This is because James Horner produced the music for both Titanic and Spiderman.
Overall this film is very enjoyable.  You don’t have to like Spiderman or action films to enjoy it. A fantastic remake.
