More than 1100 visitors attended Ocean View Estate’s fourth annual Unwind in the Vines event in June, which featured much-loved Aussie performer John Williamson along with Estate favourites, the Redsell Brothers.
More than 1100 visitors attended Ocean View Estate’s fourth annual Unwind in the Vines event in June, which featured much-loved Aussie performer John Williamson along with Estate favourites, the Redsell Brothers.
Ocean View Estates’ Kate and Thomas Honnef said the event was their biggest yet, and they were thrilled to see lots of local faces there.
“Our community really got behind us for this event and it was great to see everyone enjoying the wine and music up on the mountain,” Kate said.
While the rain held off for most of that event, it has been a very wet start to pruning for Winemaker Thomas and his vineyard staff. The vines have been pruned during July, ready for them to spring back to life at the beginning of September.
Thomas has also been busy in the Winery, bottling the first of the Estate’s 20,000 bottles in the 2012 Vintage. Bottling started with the highly awarded Viognier and a new Sparkling Reflections, which Kate describes as “a mouth full of ripe tropical fruit, with bubbles for a bit of fun”.
“Yes girls, it’s pink – and guys, it’s worth closing your eyes for, it’s that delicious!” she said.
The Estate’s 2012 reds will be maturing in the vats until late October, but those wanting an early tasting of reds and to be among the first to taste the whites can join Thomas and Kate at a special Winemaker’s Dinner on August 11 to taste from the vat and the bottle while enjoying a three course meal.
Bookings are also being taken for a six-course food and wine matching degustation dinner hosted by Thomas on 1 September.
Those preferring a quiet night in should visit the Estate’s website for Kate’s latest recipe of the month: Braised lamb neck with cherry tomatoes, thyme and rosemary.
“This is one of my favourite winter dishes, and it goes perfectly with our 2008 Shiraz which is a beautiful rich and oaky red, but nice and smooth; less spicy than a Southern Shiraz,” she said.
“Anyone interested can pop up and have a taste or just come in and say ‘Hi’.”
The Estate is running a special offer for locals each Thursday, Friday and Saturday during August and September, with homemade cake and coffee for just $5.
