Apr2013_Ocean View Estates makes top ten breakfasts list

Ocean View Estates has scored a top ten spot in a list of breakfast destinations promoted by Brisbane food writer Kerry Heaney on her Eat, Drink + Be Kerry website.
The list highlights weekend breakfast spots outside of the Brisbane CBD, rated for their food and cafe experience, as well as for the scenery on site and en route.
Kerry’s description of the Estate’s sun-warmed verandah just a few hundred metres from the vineyards was happily received by Estate owners Kate and Thomas Honnef, whose vision for their restaurant is to serve great food and wine in a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere.
As for the breakfast fare on offer, Kate said the star of the breakfast menu was the Eggs Benedict, featuring house-made Hollandaise and served on Turkish Bread with Rocket and a choice of Prosciutto or Smoked Salmon.
“Our hollandaise is made here in our restaurant and it is absolutely perfect.  It’s a real treat for a weekend breakfast because it’s actually getting harder to find a true home-made hollandaise that hasn’t come out of a jar,” she said.
The menu also includes a Farmhouse Breakfast of grilled bacon, fried eggs, chipolata, grilled tomato, sautéed mushrooms, rocket and Turkish bread, again served with the Estate’s own Farmhouse Relish.
‘Perfect Scrambled Eggs’ are also on offer, along with BRT (bacon, rocket and tomato) on Turkish Bread, Muesli and Yogurt, and no less than three varieties of Pancakes if you prefer something sweet to start the day.
You can also enjoy a perfectly made Merlot coffee, or bubbles if you’re in the mood to celebrate!
Breakfast is served on the large verandah and in the restaurant overlooking the vines every Sunday from 8.30am until 11am.
If you haven’t yet joined Winemaker Thomas Honnef for a Walk a While with the Winemaker tour, you have another opportunity coming up on Saturday 20th April.
For $50 per person, you can be part of this unique experience where, led by Thomas, you will go on a wine journey visiting the Estate’s vineyards where you will taste wines, and matched foods, in the vineyards where they were actually grown.
The tour then takes you closer to the action with a look around the winery itself, where you taste from the barrel, including an advance tasting of the Estate’s first ever tawny port, which is due for release on its tenth birthday this year.
The popular Laid-back-locals menu continues on Thursday and Friday nights, with all meals under $20 and free dessert with children’s meals.  Bookings are essential so give Kate a call by 6pm to let her know that you’re coming in for dinner.
