Apr2013_Dog and Cat Registration
Registration fees for cats and dogs have been adjusted to better reflect the true cost of delivering animal management services to the Moreton Bay Region.
The cost of registering a desexed cat or dog with Moreton Bay Regional Council will increase by $5 to $30 per year at renewal.
Registrations for un-desexed cats are planned to rise by $10 to $60 and un-desexed dogs by $25 to $120 per year.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said the increases would help meet a $1.1 million funding shortfall in the cost of delivering animal management services to the Moreton Bay Region including pound facilities, complaint response and resolution, and maintaining designated dog exercise areas.
“Moreton Bay Regional Council’s registration costs for cats and dogs remain comparable with most other areas of South East Queensland,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“We’ll be continuing to offer first-time registrations of desexed cats and dogs for $20 to not only encourage owners to have their pets registered but also desexed.”
Moreton Bay Regional Council has also maintained its eligible pensioner concession for desexed dogs and cats at $20 per year.
However, permits for declared dangerous dogs and declared menacing dogs have increased to $500 and $275 per year respectively.
“Council has strived to keep registration costs as low as possible for responsible pet owners and we’ll also be continuing council’s door-to-door inspection program to remind residents of their obligation to ensure their pets are registered,” the Mayor said.
“Responsible pet ownership is everybody’s business.”
