Apr2011_WAS THERE A JAPANESE SPOTTER ON MT LAWSON
(QLD) DURING WORLD WAR TWO
Recently, at the Samford District Historical Museum, I had a conversation with a longtime resident who lives on the Cedar Creek side of Mt. Lawson – Mt. Samson being the other. He assured me the Military certainly thought so. The top of Mt. Lawson has commanding views of shipping in and out of Brisbane.
So they conducted two very intensive sweep/searches of the area. I might add this is still rugged country. That is all my informant knew. Perhaps a reader has more information? We would be very interested to hear from you if you have.
I can be contacted at the Samford Museum on a Wednesday Ph. 07 3289 2743 or you can contact me privately on 07 3289 4646 . My home Email is windyknoll@bigpond.com
Last year I wrote an article looking for information on locals who went off to the Boer War and would like to thank all the people who responded. Unfortunately two months later all my Emails were destroyed together with all contacts. Some of your stories were amazing and I was actually contacted by three people whose Fathers had fought in the Boer War 110 years ago.
This Anzac Day at the Samford Museum we will have a display of Photo’s from the Boer War which have been very kindly loaned by the Boer War Memorial Association along with Descendant Registration forms. We now have the old Grovely Railway Station which has been turned into a War Memories Display of WW1 to the present.
The Museum will open from 9.00 am. till 2.00 pm. There will be free admission to the entire Museum and Displays. Tea, Coffee and Anzac Biscuits available and a Sausage Sizzle for those feeling hungry.
Looking forward to meeting some of you.
