A lively meeting of around 50 local people interested in the arts and creativity was convened at The Farmers Hall Sunday 11th March.  We were so impressed with the numbers and enthusiasm of the people who came.  Just goes to show how great the need is.
Post meeting, the arts register has nearly one hundred registrants and is off to a great start.  Well done Samford and surrounds creative community!
The purpose of the meeting was to outline ideas that have come about from the Samford Futures Planning process facilitated by ViVa over the last 6 months or so and to formally begin a register of people involved in the arts and creativity in Samford and surrounds.  We had an audio visual presentation by Peter Booth which showed how we came to start the register and about our group Creative Samford.
We ran through some of the ideas that came up in the community survey last year, arts trail, artisan markets, website construction as part of the register and public art.  Our group presented ideas and plans to the group.  Next we broke into small groups for lively discussion of what people want from the register and ideas for the creative arts in the area.  REMEMBER IT IS YOUR REGISTER.
We want the register to incorporate all genres of the arts and also those who may not be practicing artists but are creative souls who love the arts in all forms.  Lots of ideas were gathered.  We discussed what the people present would like from the register and these ideas will be collated and discussed at our next meeting.
We had representatives from Samford Valley Rotary, Moreton Bay Region Arts Council, the Slab Hut, the Samford Quilters group and Dayboro Gallery as well as many individual artists.  Thank you for your attendance, enthusiasm and support.
It seems most people present wanted to get together regularly with other artists and hear about what they are doing professionally and artistically.  It was decided that the next meeting of the Arts Register will be on Sunday the 29th April at the Farmers Hall (to be confirmed) 3pm -5pm sharp.  Bring a notebook and pen and your lovely selves!  We will continue the work begun at the first meeting.  If you couldn’t make this meeting, please come to the next.  We promise it will be fun and very relevant!  In fact just about everyone gave us 4 or 5 out of 5 for relevance on our feedback forms.  Please jot the date down in your diary now (to be confirmed!).
We would like more time at the next meeting to get to know each other as this was identified as a big need.  Samford is such a creative place yet there is no continuity in the arts and there are fragmented groups and individuals but not a lot to bring everyone together.  We see a big part of our job as a group is to bring these groups together for the common good of Samford and surrounds creative community.  We want to make the arts visible and see Samford and surrounds become renowned as a creative place to visit, do business in and live.  @Creative Samford has a lovely ring to it!  If you would like to be part of the @CreativeSamford group please email Bruce Jones bljones@bigpond.com for details of our next meeting or Wendy Bailye wendy@wendybailye.com for the Arts Register.
