Local businessman and community advocate Craig Dunn will be running as a candidate for Division 11 in the Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Government elections.
Craig currently sits on three volunteer management committees, two relating to business and regional development. The other’s focus is on providing sport to local boys and girls. He has always been a big believer in working for and giving back to his community and does so with great enthusiasm.
Craig said: “I have lived in the area for many years with my wife Susie and we believe it is a great place to raise our two children, who both attend local state schools. We are committed to this region and will never live anywhere else.”
“I have decided to run for council as I have real concerns for the future of our region’s kids and want to make our area a place that business wants to invest in and people want to work, rest and play in.
My business operates throughout the Moreton Bay Region and as a small business owner with a young family I certainly understand the difficulty faced by many residents and businesses due to the cost-of-living pressures we have all been experiencing,” said Craig.
It is now more important than ever before that you have someone who represents your interests and will fight to get a better deal for you. Ours is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia and as the 3rd largest council in the country there should be many opportunities for residents and businesses.
Craig said some of his election commitments are:
· to consult much earlier with residents and businesses on all issues and will hold fortnightly "mobile offices" in Dayboro, Samford and Narangba to allow easier access and transfer of ideas and information but will always be available to meet with residents 24/7 upon request;
· maintain the current water rebates with annual increases in line with CPI;
introduce a Hardship Tribunal, similar to Brisbane City Council that assists residents who fall on hard times and struggle to pay their rates;
fight to have councillors’ votes recorded at council meetings so residents know if councillors are truly representing them and their area,
reduce the number of “confidential” meetings council holds,
work with residents on making local emergency disaster plans that best suit their areas requirements in the event of any unfortunate disasters like flood or fire, that occasionally occur,
· work with local sporting and community clubs to improve facilities and for council to take back maintenance of fields like mowing and aerating to free up volunteers time.
If elected I plan to always put our community first and will bring honesty, integrity and accountability back to council. I will set a standard of maximum consultation with local residents.
I will work as a true Independent and I’m motivated and committed to bringing the whole Moreton Bay region together instead of it still being seen as three separate districts. I care about the future of our region especially Division 11 and want to see it and the people that live and work here prosper. With your support on 28 April 2012 we can make our patch and the whole region the place it should and can be! VOTE 1 for DUNN in DIVISION 11.
