Amy and Toby a winning team

Six-year-old Amy Shaw and her Spoodle puppy Toby proved a winning combination when they took out the Caboolture Family Pet Fair’s best trick competition on Saturday, March 28.

The dynamic duo took home a medal and dog food prize after Amy used only hand signals to make her puppy sit, drop and roll.
Judges were most impressed with Amy’s ability to control her dog and the love she shows him.
Amy’s mother Jill Shaw said Amy and Toby had attended a six-week Canine Good Citizen course together where Amy learned basic obedience training.
She has also learned first aid for dogs, grooming tips, safety skills and what to do if a dog is aggressive.
Amy has already taught Toby to sit, drop, stand, stay, walk on a lead and come when he is called and she’s working on teaching him to “shake hands”.
The pair now attends a puppy playgroup and Amy is heavily involved in looking after her dog.
She’s looking forward to his birthday so she can organise a party for Toby and his friends, complete with doggy treat party bags.
Amy and Toby were among more than 8,000 who visited Caboolture’s Centenary Lakes on Saturday for the Moreton Bay Regional Council organised pet fair.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said it was terrific that so many families took the time to visit.
“It’s great to see this kind of response from residents, and we’re pleased our efforts to promote responsible pet ownership are so well supported by our communities,” he said.
