Sept2014_Dayboro Men’s Shed Team join the 2014 Long Ride to Uluru
Raising Awareness of Prostate Cancer and Men’s Health Matters: 27 September – 4 October.
More information about the LONG RIDE 2014 is available from http://www.the-long-ride-tm–2013.com/
Once again a Dayboro Men’s Shed team, Garry Evans, Mike Huggett and Owen Capp, will participate in the Long Ride to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other men’s health matters. Garry, Mike and Owen all participated in the 2013 ride to Cairns and Owen also did the 2010 ride to Darwin.
This year, on 27 September approximately 200 motorcycle riders will leave many Australian cities and towns to ride to Uluru. Riders will follow many different routes to Uluru. The Men’s Shed team and most other SE Qld riders will travel approximately 4000 km to Uluru via Tamworth and West Wyalong in NSW, Swan Hill in Victoria and Tununda, Port Augusta and Coober Peedy in South Australia.
The Qld riders will meet up with NSW and Vic riders on day 2 at West Wyalong in central NSW and with WA and Nth Qld riders at Port Augusta, SA.
With many fund raising activities at overnight stops, riders are hoping for similar fund raising efforts to the LONG RIDE 2013, which allowed full time researchers into prostate cancer to be employed.
Garry, Mike and Owen want to remind every male over forty to have a test for prostate cancer as there are no symptoms in the early stages when it is curable. These riders were motivated to participate in the ride as a result of a number of the Shed members being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
If you would like to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia through the LONG RIDE 2014 you can make a donation by donating directly to Garry, Mike or Owen, or by a direct transfer to: ECU Australia, Payee BSB: 654019, Payee Account Name: Dayboro Men’s Shed, Payee Account No: 100061904.
