July2014_Pine Rivers Community Anzac Grants Announced
The Member for Pine Rivers, Seath Holswich MP, has welcomed a Queensland Government grant to Pine Rivers electorate organisations for projects to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the First World War.
Mr Holswich said the Anzac Centenary community grants program recognised the role many communities throughout the state played in supporting Australia’s involvement in the First World War.
Mr Holswich said the projects to receive funding will be the Boys’ Brigade Queensland and the Dayboro War Memorial Association Inc.
The Dayboro War Memorial Association Inc. will use their $7,353 to display 3 granite columns around the World War One Cenotaph, with the names and history of each of the soldiers from the area. There are also plans to have re-enactments and other displays on ANZAC Day 2015.
“The First World War was Australia’s first significant international military campaign, and men and women from all over the state willingly answered the call to serve,” Mr Holswich said.
“Many of them made the ultimate sacrifice for the future generations and didn’t return to their families, friends, jobs and communities.”
“This project and others like it in Queensland will ensure that the memory of such sacrifice continues to be recognised and preserved for future generations.”
The Queensland Government has provided funding for local events, projects and re-enactments of up to $80,000 to commemorate 100 years since Australia’s involvement in the First World War.
The program will be commencing a second round of community grants shortly, and Mr Holswich strongly encourages local organisations to apply.
