Moreton Bay Regional Council and the State Government are contributing $178,000 towards the construction of a covered arena for Samford’s Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA).
Division 11 councillor, Bob Millar said the covered arena would give the association the ability to use the facility rain, hail or shine.
“There’s no doubting the value of the great work RDA does in our community, but it currently depends on fine weather conditions and that’s about to change,” Cr Millar said.
“The project consists of a large 1,200 square metre roof structure which will span over the existing arena to ensure the association can continue its riding activities whatever the season.
“It’s an investment in the efforts and dedication of the volunteers who give so much to our community.”
Samford RDA President, Clare Emerson said she couldn’t be happier.
“This is a great example of the council working in partnership with local sporting clubs and organisations,” Mrs Emerson said.
“It’s a project which will have a positive impact on the work we do.
“Council’s investment means we can continue to provide a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment – despite the weather – for both members and the volunteers who make it all possible.”
The arena roof for Samford RDA is part of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s $1.3 million budget investment in sport and park infrastructure across Division 11 in 2013/14.
