Anzac Day Ride Report
Once again our club participated in the Dayboro Anzac Day parade. Eight of us met at our usual place at the showgrounds then rode over together through the park to wait at the pub for the start of the parade. After a little hesitation by one horse having to cross a grate we headed up the main street riding at the back of the parade until we reached the school. Then we went with the rest of the crowd back over to the showgrounds where the horses were quite happy to have a rest in the main ring as the ceremony went along. Bob laid the wildflower wreath at the monument for us and we watched the old plane do its fly-by. It was funny to see the horses’ faces as they watched the wreaths go past on the other side of the fence but not quite close enough for them to eat. As per usual the horses kept a few nearby children entertained and were quite happy to accept any pats offered to them and a few carrots out of our saddle-bags.
April Club Ride Report
We left the showgrounds with Peter and Neil showing us the way and carrying a very rough mud map drawn by Bob. Sorry to Peter and Neil for mixing them up on the radio quite often but very quickly corrected by Gemma each time. I was the tail-ender for the day opening and closing gates and Gemma was tracking the route we followed for future rides on the new GPS. Jonathon was happy to be our first-aider for the day and rode with us at the back with Tom and Navajo being unusually civil to each other. We rode past the ambulance centre and turned at the cemetery. After riding across the council paddock we all safely crossed the shallow river and a squishy, muddy section before heading into a Laceys Creek property for a lovely scenic ride. It was a little interesting when we were temporarily lost as our fearless leaders looked at the map. We weren’t really lost though just a little misplaced and soon back on track after taking the scenic route. Kevin and Arthur will be pleased to know that they are not the only ones to takes us on a little diversion. We had lots of water crossings on the ride so many places for the horses to splash and drink. After approx 3½ hours we arrived back at the shed to a lunch of assorted sandwiches. Unfortunately the fridge had been a bit too cold and froze them so it was quite funny to watch everyone bite into their sandwiches and go crunch. Anyway another ride finished and everyone went home happy.
