Jun2013_So whats been happening

Bird flu … swine flu … real flu … and virus 1,2,3,4,5 etc which means that the doctor has no idea about any of them till they get worse.  Go home and have an aspro or six or a card of panadol. You’ll be right.  Come back if you don’t get any better.  How do you think the Broncos will go on the weekend?
What happened to the fair dinkum, old-style common cold with the snotty nose … the real McCoy that sends you to bed for a couple of days with a sore throat and a temperature of about 120° or a bit more and bugger the doctor.  You’d either get better or dead of your own accord in those days.
A close friend of mine who shall remain nameless went off to the Dr with one of the abovementioned conditions for relief. He rocks up to the surgery sneezing, coughing, burping and may, or may not have emitted other inadvertent musical accompaniments.
‘Hello,’ says the doc, ‘what can I do for you?’
‘I’ve got more than a code in the node.  It’s gedding serious.’
‘Well, well,’ says the doctor, ‘the first flu case for the season, eh?  It’s early this year.’  With that he steps back and prepares a couple of syringes.
The brickie’s labourer went white and nearly slid off the chair.  ‘No, no doctor.  I’m a conscientious objector.  I don’t have injections.’
The doctor said casually, ‘Oh they’re not for you.  The other doctor in the next door room will be sure to want a flu injection.  I’ll give him one and then he can give me the other one.  Can’t be too careful.  Won’t be long.’
When the doc reappeared he said, ‘Well there’s not much we can do for you apart from aspirin or panadol.  Come back if you get any worse.  How do you reckon the Broncos will go on the weekend?’
This may or may not have happened at Strathpine.
PS The Broncos copped a flogging.
