Have your say on the NDIS
Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Carers, Senator Jan McLucas and Senator for Queensland, Mark Furner invite local people with disability, their families, carers and service providers to attend a community forum in Strathpine which will provide an update on the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Senator Furner encouraged people with disability, their families and carers, and the disability sector to come along on March 26th and join in the conversation on the NDIS.
“We know that Queenslanders are eager to see the National Disability Insurance Scheme get off the ground,” Senator Furner said.
“We are getting on with the job of building the NDIS and we know that people with disability, their families and carers and the disability sector are central to that process.”
Senator McLucas said the Gillard Government was delivering $1 billion for the first stage of the NDIS to be rolled out in five locations across the country starting this year– a year ahead of the timetable set out by the Productivity Commission.
“The Federal Labor Government made it clear in our budget what our priorities were by committing $1 billion to roll out the first stage of the National Disability Insurance Scheme,” Senator McLucas said.
“We’re working with other states and territories to launch the NDIS and from this year, it will become real for thousands of people with disability, their families and carers in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT.
“We want to work with Campbell Newman too. But we need a commitment from him that puts Queensland equal with other Australians – not one that lets our state fall further behind.
“The Gillard Government wants to make sure all Australians with disability get the care and support they need, no matter where they live or how they acquired their disability.”
Under the NDIS, people with disability will have their needs assessed, and will be supported to develop individual plans to deliver ongoing personalised care and support over their lifetime.
The forums will be held on the 26th March at 10:30am for people with disability, their families and carers and at 12:30pm for disability service providers at the Strathpine Community Centre, 199 Gympie Rd, Strathpine.
Those interested in attending should contact the Office of Senator Furner on 07 3881 3710 to register.
