Mar2013_IWD International Womens Day
Friday, 8th March 2013
at Norths Leagues & Services Club
PRESENTED BY ZONTA CLUB OF CABOOLTURE
At the Women of the Year Luncheon in 1981, Lord Mayor Doug Sutherland said : “As women have moved into public life in increasing numbers over the last decades, they have proved conclusively that rocking the cradle does no preclude influencing the world. Our public life has been immeasurably enriched by the contribution of women at all levels in our society. Women have shown that an individual’s choices need not be limited by being male or female, resulting in greater freedom for men and women – and we will all benefit.”
On March 8, women from around the world meet to celebrate International Women’s Day. It looks at the contribution women have made to their families and communities and celebrates the fact that we can build a better world by working together. The day is important to Zonta Clubs throughout the world as we are primarily linked to projects which specifically benefit women and girls, in all communities.
Zonta began in 1919, so it is approaching its hundred year celebrations.
For our speakers, we try to choose women who have made a contribution that is wide ranging and different. This year’s speaker is Carla Pearse, an ordained Tibetan Buddhist nun, living at Chenrezig Institute in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast. She is a counsellor with a Master of International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution.
