Sept2011_An Update on Dayboro Mens Shed
There was a great response to the public meeting and information night held on Wednesday, 27th July at Dayboro Football Club.
Our guest speakers were:
Peter Dutton, our local Federal Member of Parliament, who spoke on the benefits of the Men’s Shed movement and the availability of Federal Funding
Graham Curnow, the Queensland State President of the Men’s Shed Association, who also spoke on the benefits of the movement, and on the workings of a Men’s Shed and on how to set one up.
Members of the Pine Rivers Men’s Shed who spoke enthusiastically about their Shed, how it has developed, its growing membership and how much its members enjoy the facilities.
Some thirty people were at the meeting, and of them, ten signed up to be on the Steering Committee.
The following are gratefully thanked for providing assistance with that first meeting:
· Dayboro Lions Club members
· Dayboro Football Club
· Fuzzy for providing a great meal
· Dayboro Post Office, (Gloria and Devon), for their help in sending out the A5 flyers
· All the business owners in Dayboro who put up A4 posters.
The Steering Committee held its first ‘meet and greet’ on Saturday, 6th August at a members shed in Samsonvale, and agreed to set up a formal committee.
The first steps are to:
· Elect a President, Secretary, Treasurer and Publicity Officer, (done)
· Set up a bank account
· Determine Club Rules and Incorporation
· Arrange insurance
· Set membership application forms
· Set Membership Fees and refreshment fees
· Set Occupational Health and Safety rules for use of machinery
· Elect a Workshop manager.
Some of the Steering Committee have been on a fact finding tour of the Pine River’s Shed at Petrie and have gained lots of information to help us on our way and on how a Shed is run.
We hope to have another Public Meeting without too much delay, just as soon as we have a little more information on Incorporation, funding from Government and other sources, and progress on how and where a building could be sited.
