Feb11 NETWORK TOPIC
Well! What a start to 2011 was had by Queenslanders – and Dayboro was not immune to the devastation of floodwaters! It is hoped that life soon settles down to a more sedate pace!!
A hastily organised Public Meeting acted as a de-briefing and an avenue for our neighbours from Samford to offer a helping hand to our community in lieu of trekking across Brisbane to assist in the more widely publicised Government initiated recovery effort. The meeting also provided a very useful avenue to get information to affected residents and businesses in relation to what help was available – from coordination of hands-on assistance to Government financial grants that could be applied for. Attendance was beyond expectations as more and more chairs had to be hastily pulled out from under the stage – until it was standing room only in the supper room/bar area.
In typical Dayboro fashion ‘we’ (as in the Dayboro community) are organising our own fundraising with a Flood and Fire 2011 Concert and Charity Auction on 18th February (see page 7); accepting donations to the Flood and Fire appeal via the Community Chest Account at the Dayboro ECU office; as well as sales of Calendars ($5) and T-Shirts.
Calendars ($5) and T Shirts are in production and on sale now from Heather McKenzie, who will also take orders. Contact Heather on (Home) 3425 1987 or email heather.mckenzie@ascenta.com.au
If you wish to secure a Sponsorship recognition with your donation of $500 or more, contact Chris Kent on 0418 182 853 or email chriskent@arkaeon.com
Fire? For those who didn’t know, the McKavanagh family of Laceys Creek lost their home and much more in a fire in the week prior to the flood. Planning was already underway to fundraise and, at the family’s suggestion, this is to become a 50/50 split with the flood appeal.
