Sept10 MT MEE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
DONATES A DEFIB UNIT
During the past few months the Mt Mee Rural Neighbourhood Watch has engaged in a concerted effort to raise awareness, money and funding for the acquisition of a defibrillator unit to donate to the Mt. Mee Hall.
Due to the kindness of the community and a number of very generous donations from The Hertrick, Spring Brown, Gillespie, Gagen and Richards families plus MBRC contribution, thanks to councillor Adrian Raedel, the wonderful efforts of many local ladies who cooked for the cake stall and our Deputy Frank who donated special timber bowls sold on the stall, we have now been able to purchase a Philips Heart Start Defibrillator.
Initially Neighbourhood Watch has arranged for the training of a core group of people. Once this is completed the unit will be presented to the Hall. At this point the Hall will take on the role of arranging for ongoing training and routine maintenance of the unit.
Mt Mee Neighbourhood Watch recognised some time ago the need for additional community care and concluded that a defibrillator unit would be a noble project to pursue. Our next project will be an OxyViva to complement the Defibrillator.
Presentation of the Defibrillator took place on August 1st at the Mt Mee Markets.
What is a defibrillator? – It is a piece of lifesaving equipment for cardiac arrest victims. It increases the chance of survival after a cardiac arrest, by shocking the heart. It is the only effective method of restoring normal cardiac rhythm. People of any age can become victim to cardiac arrest. Please be sure you are trained and aware of what to do if someone collapses near you.
