July 2010 LEUKAEMIA DOORKNOCK
YOUR SPARE CHANGE WILL HELP LEUKAEMIA PATIENTS
Doorknock Appeal 17 – 30 July 2010
It’s time to open your doors, open your hearts and gather your small change to give to the Leukaemia Foundation volunteers who will be knocking on neighbourhood doors for the annual Doorknock Appeal from 17 – 30 July.
The Doorknock Appeal will see 33,000 volunteers set to knock on 700,000 doors across Queensland. This year the Foundation hopes to raise $1.2 million during the appeal to ensure a brighter future for patients and their families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.
The funds collected will go towards promising medical research, as well as a range of patient support services including specialised care, accommodation, counselling, transport and education.
Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland CEO, Peter Johnstone, said money donated during the Doorknock Appeal would give patients and families in need, access to patient support services completely free of charge.
“Many people don’t realise the enormous challenges faced by a patient diagnosed with a blood cancer. For many Queenslanders it means leaving their home immediately for intensive and lengthy medical treatment in a different city. This places other pressures on the family at one of the most traumatic times in their lives,” Mr Johnstone said.
“Just by donating a few spare dollars you can help us to provide regional patients a home-away-from-home and specialised care and assistance as they fight their battle with cancer. Funds will also be directed to ongoing medical research which has already resulted in better outcomes for patients and one day will lead us towards a cure.”
Every day five people in Queensland are diagnosed with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders and one every hour in Australia.
So please open your door to our friendly volunteers and give what you can to help the Foundation continue its Vision to Cure and Mission to Care.
