June 2010 . . Happenings at Dayboro State School
FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS AT DAYBORO STATE SCHOOL
If you have driven past the school lately you will have noticed a brand new School Hall and behind the hall, up the hill, a new Library.
These buildings were part of the Federal Governments ‘Building the Education Revolution’ scheme and are being enjoyed by all who attend the school. The Library is an amazing space with a deck that has the most gorgeous view! The Hall has already hosted the schools Anzac Day Ceremony, our school assemblies on Wednesdays and the children have enjoyed an Arts Council visit which was performed on the new stage.
The hall is available for hire after school hours to church and community groups or individuals for events such as exercise classes, fundraising events, conferences and concerts. We are very excited to announce our first hirer, Leanne Laing who will be holding a Boxing Boot Camp on Monday evenings from 6.30 – 7.30pm. She can be contacted on 0412353427.
The P&C have many events planned for the hall. The first being the Junior and Senior Discos on the 4th June. We are then holding our first fundraising event in the hall to celebrate our new buildings, which also coincides with the schools 90th Anniversary atop Heathwood Hill. This event is scheduled for Friday 18th June from 7pm-10pm and is themed ‘Jeans & Jewels’. The P&C would like to invite all the adult members of our community to attend this event. There will be yummy food, lots of fun party games and competitions to enter (for a small fee!), and a bar where you can purchase a beverage ortwo. So bring along your spare gold coins and support the P&C in raising funds to help our kids. For catering purposes, if you would like to join us for this evening of fun please call Nicki on Ph: 3425 1646 or send an email to: jjason123@bigpond.com.
The P&C have also funded the air-conditioning of our hottest block – ‘G block’ – which in summer has to endure the western afternoon sun. Air conditioning the majority of the school is a very expensive project, however, due to the awesome efforts of the P&C over the last couple of years we have been able to complete Stage 1 of this massive task. We still have a long way to go, but we are a determined bunch and will do our best to make this happen through our many fundraising ventures. Your support when we hold these events (Dayboro Day Stall, Jeans and Jewels Night and Melbourne Cup Day to name a few!) is greatly appreciated by the Dayboro SS community.
Other exciting news is that the P&C have received a State Government Gambling Benefit Fund grant and plans are underway to build a ramp from the Prep building to the administration building to enable easier access to parents with prams. Construction should begin in the near future.
The school community is very excited about all the improvements happening around our school. It has been a very busy year!
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
The student representative council at the school comprises students from years 4-7 who meet on a regular basis with the Principal Glynnis Gartside. This term they decided they would like to raise money towards a fridge for the new hall, because although we have an awesome new kitchen there is nothing in it! Their ingenious plan was to hold a Free Dress Day / Crazy Hair Day with students donating a gold coin to wear free dress and another gold coin for their crazy hair. I am pleased to report that this day was very successful with the Student Council raising over $570.00 towards the new fridge. The P&C would like to congratulate the Student Council on a wonderful job in organizing this day.
