Mega youth fest to set the region alight in 2009

What if there was an opportunity that came along only once every 150 years?
Well that opportunity has arrived for the youth of South East Queensland with the announcement of a festival that will highlight the talents of the region and give young people an opportunity to engage with some of the most exciting performers and artists in this corner of the State.
The festival is just one part of a series of celebrations planned right across Queensland to mark the State’s 150th birthday in 2009.
Drawing on the creative skills of seven regional local governments and the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), preparations have been underway for some time to invite today’s 13 to 25 year olds to participate in a series of meetings that will lead to workshops, training programs as well as performances, exhibitions and events.
Designed to celebrate the potential of all young people and specifically those who are currently 18 to 25, festival organizers said it’s all about investigating how young people can make a difference in our region and providing them with opportunities to express their individuality.
"This festival will be THE event of 2009!  So the planning has to start now"
"The concept driving this youth project is a commitment to the advancement and enhancement of youth arts and emerging culture in Queensland.  The arts and creative industries have an enormous role to play in the lives of young people as a means of self-expression and personal development.  The Q150 project will provide a structure and the expertise for the many big, bold, bright ideas young people bring to a series of meetings which started on Friday, 1st February and includes workshops to be held in March and May.  The project team can’t wait to meet the region’s creative youth."
Meetings to be held from Redcliffe to Gympie over a two week period, will provide young people with the first opportunity to meet and discuss concepts for the festival and to be part of the creative development process.
"It’s all about youth.  We want to meet with individuals and organizations across the region, listen to their ideas and involve as many young people as possible in the project from the ground up!  It’ll give musicians, dancers, all types of performers and artists the chance to share their skills, develop new ones and experiment with what they have to offer.  This is about doing your own thing … and sharing it with others."
