LINDAS VINE LINES Nov 08
State Member for Kurwongbah
If you have any concerns with a state-related issue, I’d be happy to talk with you. Call my office on 3205 6779, email me at kurwongbah@parliament.qld.gov.au or visit my website at www.lindalavarch.com. I will be visiting Dayboro on Thursday 6th November and will be at the Dayboro Council Office in Williams Street from 10:30am to 12pm. If you would like an appointment, call my office on 3205 6779 or just drop in if you are passing. I’d love to see you.
Another busy month has been and gone with a number of Sporting Clubs having their end of season functions including the Dayboro and District Soccer Club AGM and awards presentations. October also saw the regional sitting of Parliament in Cairns, which was very enjoyable and I also had the opportunity to have lunch at Parliament House with school leaders from Bray Park State High School and Genesis Christian College.
Dayboro State School Maintenance Boost
Eight state schools in the Kurwongbah electorate, including Dayboro State School are set to benefit from a State Government commitment to spend an extra $90 million over two years on state school maintenance. $45 million will be spent this financial year under the State Schools of Tomorrow – external finishes upgrade program in 895 schools throughout the state. Bray Park State High School and Bray Park, Dayboro, Eatons Hill, Kurwongbah, Lawnton, Petrie and Strathpine West State Schools will share a total of $342,986 through this program. Dayboro will get $48,306.50 of this.
The work will range from external painting at Dayboro State School to rebuilding a roof at Strathpine West State School. This funding will fast track works such as painting and repairs, and replacement of wall cladding, roofs, guttering, downpipes, windows, doors, posts, verandahs and staircases.
Petrie Railway Station Upgrade
Anyone who uses Petrie railway station will soon start to notice further improvements to the station, including an extension of the station’s footbridge, thanks to millions of dollars worth of upgrade works now underway. I recently visited the station and I am certain the upgrades will boost safety, accessibility and the station’s visual appeal. Petrie Station’s users have already benefited from the completion of the existing bus interchange and car park on the western side, as well as the construction of a new park ‘n’ ride facility and access road from the eastern side at a cost of $5 million. The improvements don’t end there. This current phase of works costing $7 million, funded by the TransLink Transit Authority and delivered by QR, will make the station much safer and easier to access for all passengers.
Once complete, the footbridge across the railway lines will extend to the recently completed eastern car park, providing new lift access from the car park to the station. A new full length bus awning will also be built to protect passengers from the weather while waiting for the bus. Other improvements include a new disability-friendly ticket window and sections of the station’s platforms will be raised to eliminate the vertical step between the platform and the train carriage.
Passengers should experience no delays as all services will continue to run as normal and the upgrades are expected to be completed by April 2009, weather permitting.

I would like to congratulate Dayboro State School on their successful application for a Minor Facilities Grant from the Department of Sport and Recreation. The School will receive $21,823 to upgrade one of their existing cement tennis courts to a synthetic multipurpose court. This is wonderful news for the School and the Dayboro Netball Club who will now have a home court. Pine Rivers United Sports Club were also successful in getting a Minor Facilities grant.
