Rural Discovery Day set to showcase Queensland Agriculture

Thursday, May 15 from 9am
The Primary Industries Week Rural Discovery Day is on again!  Close to 400 students aged 8 to 10 from across Brisbane will next month take part in the biggest educational rural event of the year.

Rural Discovery Day will be held on Thursday May 15, from 9am at the newly renovated RNA EKKA Showgrounds. Primary Industries Week Committee Chairman Dan Galligan said the event is set to be a highly informative day for all involved.

“It will be a great opportunity for students from the city to see, touch, feel and explore some of Queensland’s agricultural outputs,” Mr Galligan said.
Nearly 20 industries will be involved in the event, allowing students to see what exactly farmers do to produce the food and fibre that makes it into our homes.
“Many students never have the opportunity to see or visit a farm, so this is the best chance they have to see what farming life is all about,” Mr Galligan said. “A wide cross section of farming practices will be described and explained and hopefully the students will have an experience to remember.”

Rural Discovery Day is part of Primary Industries Week, which is organised by representatives from a number of Queensland’s biggest primary industries, including Cotton Australia, Queensland Farmers’ Federation, Brisbane Markets, the Royal National Agricultural Society, AgForce QLD, Queensland Dairy Farmers’ Organisation, Nursery and Garden Industry Qld and Canegrowers.  The week is also supported by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.

An Awards Night will also be held on Thursday May 8, from 6pm at Customs House, followed by a lunch at Customs House on Friday May 16, from 12.30pm.
