WINTER IS COMING
It’s that time of year again, there’s a hint of winter in the air and the nights are certainly colder. At this time of year we need to be particularly mindful of our older pets. They certainly feel the cold and we need to make sure they have somewhere warm and protected to shelter from those biting westerlies and the frosty mornings.
Like us, our pets can suffer from painful arthritis and joint degeneration which is definitely more noticeable in the colder months. Some of the changes you may notice include; a reluctance to jump e.g into the car, stiffness after exercise, generally slowing down and decreased activity levels. There are several steps we can take to help our furry friends with this discomfort, from comfortable bedding in a draught free area and winter coats to dietary supplements, veterinary prescribed medication, weight management and gentle exercise.
On average dogs are considered to have entered their senior years by the age of 7. At this point we need to be particularly vigilant with regards to routine health checks to ensure their continued good health. There are a number of health issues which can have a significant impact on the animal’s quality of life, such as kidney disease, dental disease, weight and joint degeneration. We offer a complimentary seniors program and weight clinic to help monitor these changes and keep your pet healthy and active.
Lastly, we would like to congratulate our first puppy pre-school graduates of April 2015. We had a class of 6 gorgeous puppies who all thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they learned some basic commands and socialised with their new found friends. Congratulations to Alfie, Benji, Brian, Gracie, Lucy and Wolfie.
