ARTIST OF THE MONTH:
Jan Chapman was born in Australia, and then spent the next thirty years or so living in remote areas of Papua New Guinea. This is where she began her interest in painting, influenced by the beauty of the landscape and culture of that country. On return to Australia in 1980, she continued to develop her arts practice with studies under the guidance of Pia Tareen, mainly painting in the impressionist and traditional method. During this time she exhibited at Brisbane’s Riverside Centre and the School of Arts. More recently she has taken part in workshops by Todd Whisson and Dale Marsh.
Jan’s artistic aim is to create paintings from the landscape and her imagination, that capture her vision of the spirit, and beauty, of nature. Jan’s work is featured for the Month of May at Dayboro Art Gallery, open each day 10am to 3pm. We would love to see you there.
