210612_LOCAL MPs PLEDGE CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL CHAPLAINCY
In response to the recent High Court decision, local State MPs have expressed their on-going support for local School Chaplains.
“Local Chappies provide a valuable service to not only our schools, but the wider community,” Mr Trevor Ruthenberg said. “Every child needs someone they can turn to, someone independent who can support them, when they are facing tough life situations. School Chaplains provide a valuable contact point for our students.”
Mr Seath Holswich pointed out the long term economic and societal benefits of the School Chaplaincy program.
“Schools play an important role in helping to shape the future lives of our students. If schools are empowered and resourced to assist students with issues they are facing while they are still young, this can only benefit our society by ensuring students grow up to become fully functioning, contributing members of our society.”
Mr Reg Gulley expressed his desire that the Federal Government find a way to continue vital funding for Chaplains.
“This is an important issue and one that the Federal Government need to resolve without delay. They need to ensure there is no disruption to chaplaincy services in any of our local schools.”
All three MPs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting our local School Chaplains, no matter what the outcome after yesterday’s decision.
“We already have several Chaplains locally whose funding comes from sources other than the Federal Government. In a worst case scenario, we are all happy to support School Chaplains to source additional funding to endeavor to maintain and even increase chaplaincy services to our local schools,” Mr Holswich added.
