Moreton Bay Regional Council is urging rural land holders to check the structural integrity of any private dams on their property after recent heavy rain and forecasts of further storms in coming days.

The call follows the rupture of a dam on private property at Sandy Creek on Tuesday, January 4.
Council is advising owners to seek professional engineering advice if their dams are leaking water or in need of maintenance.
Owners are reminded it is their responsibility to ensure dam walls on their property are maintained in good condition and any breaches are attended to as a priority.
Breached dams can pose an avoidable risk to neighbouring communities, particularly with soil already saturated by recent downpours.
