Merry Christmas

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Dickson residents a safe Christmas and a prosperous 2016.  As we all celebrate Christmas this year, I hope you spend valuable time with your family and friends to appreciate the great opportunities we have in Australia.  I also ask that if you could please spare a thought this Christmas for our troops overseas as well as for those who are less fortunate than us.  Please stay safe on the roads this Christmas and remember that driver fatigue is one of the leading causes of accidents.

On behalf of my family and staff, I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Changes to pool safety regulations

The State Government has recently implemented changes to the pool safety regulations in Queensland.  The changes include compulsory registration of residential pools, spas and some blow-up pools; as well as changes to signage, fences and gates surrounding the pool.  A current CPR sign, which must now be displayed on all pools and spas, can be picked up from your State Member free of charge.  If you have any questions please contact my office on 3205 9977.

Young people involved in the South Pine River Complex Ecological Restoration Green Army project have commenced on-ground works in Eatons Hill.

“The South Pine River Complex Ecological Restoration project will benefit the local region through staged ecological reconstruction of the South Pine River,” Peter Dutton said.

Participants have begun work on the first stage of the project, involving extensive weed management and identification and protection of the threatened native flora species.

Future stages will involve revegetation of the native riparian vegetation and the construction of a trunk network recreational trail along the South Pine River.

The Green Army is a major Government commitment with more than $700 million budgeted over four years.

This investment in the Green Army brings the Government’s total investment in natural resource management to more than $2 billion over four years.

Further opportunities to join a Green Army project can be found online at www.australia.gov.au/greenarmy.

Dickson Australia Day Community Awards

The Dickson Community Awards are presented each year on Australia Day.  The awards recognise people who, through volunteer work or contributions, above and beyond their normal activities, have made our community a better place.

If you would like to nominate someone who you believe has made an outstanding contribution to the Dickson community, you can pick up a nomination form from my office or download one from my website; www.peterdutton.com.au.
